By Renee Phillips, The Artrepreneur Coach
I'm sure you have considered becoming a full time artist -- what artist hasn't? If you want to become a full time Artrepreneur I suggest you think about creating the vision of what you want your business to be -- otherwise known as your "Business Vision".
Your Business Vision is an overall picture of your business. It is the framework that motivates and inspires you to do what you do best.
It must be heartfelt and capture your passion and dreams. It is an expression of your best talents and unique attributes. Your Business Vision should energize you, not deplete your energy.
In it you envision who your customers will be. You define what you will offer them. Your Business Vision should have longevity and endurance. When you write it I suggest you think ahead, not only for the next year, but several years into the future.
Your Business Vision does not include, but does prepare you for, the next steps -- the people, strategies, resources and action steps you will need to take to bring your Business Vision to fruition. It does not include your Financial Plan; That is a different exercise.
You can create an overall Business Vision which applies to your entire business or you can create a Project Vision which applies to a division of your Business.
It can be expressed in about 100 words.
An Artist's Example of A Business Vision
I will create colorful paintings that express the local color of this region. I will offer two basic sizes: miniature up to 8-10" and also 16" x 20" - 20" x 24". They will be sold in four major galleries that are geared to the tourist market as well as from my website. In addition to creating 20 paintings each week I will offer plein air painting workshops one day a week. Each year I will select one painting that is considered the most popular subject in the community to be reproduced as a limited edition print. I will offer 10% of the proceeds to the landmark preservation society. These paintings will also be reproduced as a journal and calendar, which will also be sold in the local galleries and other shops.
